The Great Itchies Experiment
9-8-08

For years we have suffered seasonally with terrible skin issues on some of our ponies. We
have literally tried every potion, supplement and medication one can think of. I've long
wondered about the "allergy" diagnosis wondering how I could have such horrible luck as to
own several animals all of who are allergic to gnats and flies. It didn't seem possible especially
of the ones born here who's parents I  knew and had known to be "allergy" free.

Then one day a friend of mine pointed me in the direction of a thread on the
COTH bulletin
board about Onchocerca (neck thread worms). I read the thread and saw my ponies in the
symptoms.

Now... I'm not going to say that NONE of them have other allergies, but I am sure going to give
this a try. As of yesterday they have all had a double dose for their body weight of Equimax.
Actually the first guy on this page had his first dose a week ago when I was first directed to
the thread on COTH.

I will update this page with pictures as we go. These photos start on 9-9-08
Cicera (Si-ker-ah)
16 yr old grade mini with constant skin issues
UTS Majesty
5yr old Saddlebred/Welsh Cob cross the
mildest of the bunch
Silver
8yr old grade mini even has a 'dead worm' scar in her eye
from years of never having been on any parasite control.
Even after coming here and being on a regular
deworming program she suffers skin issues.
UTS Victoria
6 yr old Arabian/Welsh Cob cross
She had an allergic mother who we lost to COPD. I figured she could
have allergies as her mother had bad skin. Her full sister never
showed ANY signs of skin issues. Now I wonder what the real issue is.
She also has an unknown eye issue that was labeled "an immune
response" in her left eye. I will be curious to see if that responds to
this treatment.
UTS Wild Jubilee
4 yr old Quarter Pony/Welsh Cob cross
Never shown signs until recently. He looks like a classic
case of what they describe in the COTH thread.
